About the Department

Envisaging the importance and need of widespread reach of our classical Tamil Language and Literature across the states and across the countries, understanding and realizing the employment opportunities for Tamil students in Government and NGOs, undergraduate degree programme B.A Tamil was started in the Department of Tamil in the academic year 2006 -2007.   The department aims to provide value-added education coping with modern social needs and training the students in Tamil Language and Literature.

The department encourages students to prepare for developmental activities of Tamil language for catering the needs of native Tamil speaking community. It ensures the Language skill-based education and training the students for exposure to Tamil Literatures. Further, it inculcates in students Tamil heritage, tradition and culture through Language practice and its Literature readings and writings.

• Inviting the special invitees and Tamil Scholars & Researchers from reputed premier language research institutions and universities for interactions with students every year
• Active involvement in community development activities like literary and literacy club activities in remote villages
• Promoting the tradition and culture of Tamil language through organizing traditional cultural programs and events like Pongal Festivals, Tamil New Year Celebrations, Celebrating the births of Tamil Poets and their literary works.
